Held in the Hauptmarkt beneath the Frauenkirche since the 1600s, the Christkindlesmarkt is opened by the Christkind — a local girl elected every two years — reciting a prologue from the church balcony. Around 180 wooden stalls sell Nuremberg Rostbratwurst, Lebkuchen and the little prune-and-fig figures called Zwetschgenmännle. It is crowded, and that is rather the point.
