Cwmbran Christmas Lights Switch-On

Cwmbran holds its Christmas light switch-on on Saturday 21 November 2026, in the town centre, with a festive afternoon running from midday and the official switch-on at 5pm. The centre has promised a fun-filled day of seasonal activities, with a full programme of entertainment to be announced nearer the time.

What to expect

An afternoon of family entertainment and shopping, building to the switch-on at five. Because Cwmbran’s centre is largely pedestrianised and partly covered, it is a better bet than many outdoor switch-ons if the weather turns — a real consideration in south Wales in late November.

Timing

The switch-on is at 5pm, which is just after dark in late November, and the event finishes at 5.30pm. That early finish makes it a good choice for families with young children, who can see the lights come on and be home for tea.

Getting there

Cwmbran station, on the line between Newport and Abergavenny, is about fifteen minutes’ walk from the town centre. The bus station is in the centre itself, and there is extensive parking, though it will be busier than usual on the day.

Make a day of it

Newport is a short train ride away, and Cardiff’s Christmas market — the largest in Wales, with more than 200 chalets — is under half an hour further, which makes it easy to combine a Welsh Christmas market with the switch-on on the same weekend. Big Pit, the National Coal Museum at Blaenavon, is a short drive north.
