The WeihnachtsZauber (“Christmas magic”) on the Gendarmenmarkt is often called Berlin’s most beautiful Christmas market. It fills what is widely considered the city’s finest square, between the twin domed towers of the French and German Cathedrals and the Konzerthaus. It’s a more polished affair than most, with heated tents for craftspeople, gourmet food and a stage programme of music, dance and acrobatics. It’s one of the few Christmas markets anywhere that charges a small entry fee.
Dates: provisional
The 2026 market is being reported as running from Monday 23 November to Thursday 31 December, ending with a New Year’s Eve celebration. Visit Berlin’s official page still shows the 2025 season (24 November to 31 December 2025), so we’re showing 2026 as provisional.
Opening hours and entry (2025)
For reference, in 2025 the market opened Sunday to Thursday noon–10pm and Friday and Saturday noon–11pm, with shorter hours on Christmas Eve (noon–6pm) and late opening until midnight on New Year’s Eve. Entry was €2, free for children under 12, and free for everyone Monday to Friday between noon and 2pm, except on 24–26 and 31 December. We’ll update these when the 2026 details are published.
Getting there
Französische Straße, Stadtmitte and Hausvogteiplatz U-Bahn stations are all within a few minutes’ walk. The square is just south of Unter den Linden.
Make a day of it
The Brandenburg Gate and Museum Island are both walkable from the Gendarmenmarkt. Berlin has dozens of other Christmas markets, from the big one by the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church to the market in the courtyard of Charlottenburg Palace.
When will we know?
We check the official source every week and will update this page the day the dates are confirmed. In the meantime, our What’s open? tool shows the markets that have confirmed dates for any day you’re travelling.
