Liverpool Christmas Lights Switch-On
Liverpool's city-centre Christmas lights — 2026 switch-on still to be announced.
The organiser has not yet confirmed this year's dates, and the dates circulating online are either estimates or carried over from a previous year — so we are not publishing them as fact. Not yet announced. In recent years the switch-on has fallen on a Thursday in mid-November.
- Address
- Liverpool city centre
Liverpool switches on its city-centre Christmas lights in mid-November, launching a festive season that includes the market on St George’s Plateau, skating and the Christmas Wonderland at the Pier Head.
Why there’s no date here yet
The 2026 switch-on has not been announced. In recent years it has fallen on a Thursday in mid-November, but that is a pattern, not a date, and we will wait for the official announcement.
What usually happens
Live entertainment in the city centre building to the lights coming on across the shopping streets, with the Christmas tree and the decorations of the city’s landmark buildings.
Getting there
Liverpool Lime Street, Central and Moorfields stations are all in the city centre.
Make an evening of it
St George’s Hall, the Albert Dock and the waterfront are all within walking distance, and the Christmas market on St George’s Plateau is beside Lime Street station — see our Liverpool Christmas Market page for its status.
When will we know?
We are checking the official source weekly and will update this page the day the dates are confirmed. In the meantime, our What’s open? tool shows the markets that have confirmed dates for any day you’re travelling.
When the dates are confirmed, dress for standing still outdoors in the cold — see our guide to what to wear.
