Sheffield’s Christmas market is long rather than wide. More than fifty rustic log cabins run in a line through the city centre, from Town Hall Square along Fargate and Pinstone Street all the way down to the bottom of The Moor. It is a walk as much as a market, and one of the better ways to see the centre of a city that has changed a great deal in recent years.
Dates
For 2026 the market runs from Thursday 12 November to Saturday 26 December, as confirmed by Welcome to Sheffield, the city’s official visitor site. Running on to Boxing Day is unusual — most UK markets close on the 23rd or 24th — so this is one of the few places in the north you can still visit a Christmas market the day after Christmas. The organiser has not published Christmas Day arrangements; check before planning around the 25th.
Opening hours vary by street
- The Moor: Sunday to Thursday 10am–6pm; Friday and Saturday 10am–7pm
- Pinstone Street: 10am–8pm daily
- Alpine bars: 11am–10pm daily
So if you are coming in the evening, head for Pinstone Street and the bars; The Moor end closes earlier.
What to expect
Seasonal food, drink and gifts, with many of the traders local to Sheffield and South Yorkshire. The Alpine bars are the evening focus. Entry is free.
Getting there
Sheffield station is about ten minutes’ walk from the top of The Moor, and the Supertram stops at Cathedral and City Hall, close to Fargate. The city has direct trains from London, Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham, which makes it an easy day trip.
Make a day of it
The Winter Garden, one of the largest urban glasshouses in Europe, is beside Town Hall Square and free to enter — a warm place to sit with a hot drink. Kelham Island, Sheffield’s old industrial quarter now full of independent pubs and food halls, is a twenty-minute walk north, and the Millennium Gallery is next door to the Winter Garden.
