Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland is less a Christmas market than a temporary theme park with a market inside it, and setting expectations correctly is the difference between a good day and an expensive disappointment. It is the largest festive event in the UK by a wide margin, with over 150 attractions, rides and shows across a large chunk of Hyde Park.

What you actually get

There are wooden market chalets, and they sell the usual gifts, bratwurst and mulled wine. But the market is a small part of it. The draw is the rollercoasters and fairground rides, the ice rink, the Magical Ice Kingdom ice-sculpture walkthrough, circus and variety shows, the Bavarian-style beer halls, and a great deal of street food. It is loud, bright and commercial, and it is extremely good at what it is.

The money, clearly

This is the important practical point: entry is ticketed, and rides are charged separately on top. Almost every other listing on this site is free to walk into. Here you book a timed entry slot in advance, and then pay again for each ride, the rink and the ticketed shows. A family day out can become expensive very quickly if that is not planned for.

The cheap way in is off-peak: Monday to Thursday through November is heavily discounted, and advance booking is cheaper than the gate.

Getting there

Hyde Park Corner, Green Park, Marble Arch and Knightsbridge tube stations all serve it, and the park entrances for the event are signposted from each. Do not drive.

When to go

Weekday afternoons in November are by far the calmest and cheapest. December weekends and evenings are extremely busy, and queues for the popular rides become long. It is open daily except Christmas Day, and gate times vary by date — check before travelling.

Worth knowing

It runs 19 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, which makes it one of the few major UK attractions still running between Christmas and New Year.
