Edinburgh runs its market in the gardens below the castle rock, which means the whole thing is arranged on a slope with the Old Town skyline above. It leans more towards funfair than the German markets — big wheel, helter-skelter, an ice rink — and it runs well past Christmas into Hogmanay, which few others do.
