Newcastle’s market is arranged around Grey’s Monument and runs down Grey Street, Grainger Street and Nelson Street, which means you are shopping along a curve of Georgian frontages rather than in a car park. It has grown quickly — over two million visits in recent years — and the organisers have pushed hard on local traders, so the balance of North East makers and food producers is better than at most big-city markets. Old Eldon Square hosts the extra stalls when it spills over.
