Glasgow Christmas Lights Switch-On
Glasgow's Christmas lighting trail along its main shopping streets — 2026 date not yet announced.
The organiser has not yet confirmed this year's dates, and the dates circulating online are either estimates or carried over from a previous year — so we are not publishing them as fact. The 20 November date circulating is 2025's (a Thursday that year). Glasgow Life has not yet announced 2026.
- Address
- Sauchiehall, Buchanan and Argyle Streets, Glasgow
Glasgow’s Christmas lights moved away from George Square when the square was closed for redevelopment. In recent years the city has instead lit a Christmas lighting trail along its main shopping streets — Sauchiehall Street, Buchanan Street and Argyle Street — with roaming street performers on the opening evening.
Why there’s no date here yet
The date you will find online, 20 November, is 2025’s. Glasgow Life has not yet announced the 2026 switch-on. We will list it as soon as it does.
What usually happens
Based on 2025: street performers in the city centre from the late afternoon, with the lighting trail switched on in the early evening and then lit every evening through to early January.
Getting there
Glasgow Central and Queen Street stations are both a few minutes’ walk from Buchanan Street, and Buchanan Street and St Enoch subway stations sit on the trail.
Make an evening of it
The Glasgow Christmas Market at St Enoch Square is at the bottom of Buchanan Street, and Glasgow Green’s rink and funfair are a short walk east.
When will we know?
We are checking the official source weekly and will update this page the day the dates are confirmed. In the meantime, our What’s open? tool shows the markets that have confirmed dates for any day you’re travelling.
When the dates are confirmed, dress for standing still outdoors in the cold — see our guide to what to wear.
