Bath’s market threads through the lanes around the Abbey and Roman Baths, which gives it a compactness the bigger city markets lack. The emphasis is firmly on independent makers — a high proportion of stallholders come from the South West — so it is a better bet for actual presents than most. Go midweek; weekends are shoulder-to-shoulder.
